Geri van Essen is an East London based singer who started off singing in children’s choirs in the Netherlands long before she discovered the joys of singing folk songs accompanied by guitar or banjo. The idea of recording some of her favourite American folk songs as well as her own compositions was conceived after moving to London. Geri collaborated with friends to create a simple, personal record between 2015 and 2017.

New Release

10 February 2018 saw the release of Geri van Essen’s debute album, A New Hiding Place. To listen to the album and buy a digital or hard copy, go the Bandcamp page.

The mini album contains five original songs and three traditional American folk and gospel songs.

“Her voice stood out.” Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio 6 Music

“Van Essen is gifted with a gentle, pure at times slightly quivering vocal that, on occasion, reminds me of Kate McGarrigle.”

Erwin Zijleman, dekrentenuitdepop.blogspot.nl
